Jackie Harp Monroe, 86, of Parkersburg passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born July 16, 1923, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Benjamen Franklin and Emma Alice Morris Tavenner.
Jackie was a crossing guard and a waitress at South Hills Golf Course. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing poker with her friends. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jackie "Inky" Barnett and husband, Al, of Parkersburg and Becky Anderson of Mineral Wells; two sons, Donald Morehead and wife, Diana, of Parkersburg and Andy "Stoney" Rawson and wife, Connie, of Reedsville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband of 42 years, William E. Harp; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Lester Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Albert H. Harlow Sr.
Albert H. “Ab” Harlow Sr., 76, of Parkersburg passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born in Wood County, a son of the late Virgil and Virginia Stoops Napier.
Ab graduated from Parkersburg High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He formerly worked at Walker Textron and retired from the Wood County Board of Education. He attended the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Ab loved camping, fishing, hunting and dirt track racing. He was also an avid short-wave radioman.
He is survived by one son, Albert H. "Butch" Harlow II and Carol Keiffier of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Taveneer Harlow in 2002; and three brothers, Mang, Harold and Dink Harlow.
Funeral services for Mr. Harlow will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg, with the Rev. Arthur L. Bennett III officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thanks to information provided by Michael R. Horvath and Georgeann Quinn, I was able to connect Harolds mother back to her maiden name. She was born Christina M. A. Truscott, in Dover, Morris County, New Jersey, in April 1888, and is the sister of my paternal grandmother Emma May Truscott. Christina was married twice, first to James George and then to John Kerr.(NOTE: When Harold was born in 1911, the George family already had four small children and six months before Harold was born, Christina's sister Emma married my grandfather, Henry Tavener. Emma brought two older children (about 18 to 20 years old) from her first marriage into this marriage. So, it could be possible that Christina and James asked Emma and Henry to raise Harold as their own child. I believe that, in hard times, this was not unheard of and was done within families to ease expenses, cramped space, etc., for everyone in the family. In any case, school records show that Harold was called “Harold Tavener” throughout his school years and he lived with my grandparents and my father as a son and brother. It is concievible that when Harold found out that Emma and Henry were not his biological parents, he decided to use his mothers surname of Kerr, because by this time, his mother had married John Kerr.)
