Nancy Riley Whatley Mundinger, age 76, passed away Monday afternoon, June 28th, 2004 in Houston Texas surrounded by her loving family. Heaven became a place more real to us as Nancy gained the final victory and received her eternal reward. She fought a good fight; she finished the course; she always kept the faith. Henceforth, is laid up for her, a crown of righteousness.

Nancy made an impact on many lives over the years, always outgoing, fun loving, genuinely interested in others and caring to those around her. Her family, friends and pets were her true treasure.

Nancy, known to her grandchildren as Lady, was born in Dallas, Texas on January 29th, 1928. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and attended the University of Texas where she met and later married Daniel Moore Mundinger of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Shortly after Dan’s graduation, the couple moved to Baton Rouge and lived there from in 1948-1951. Upon Dan’s transfer by the Ethel Corporation the couple moved to Baytown in 1951 where Nancy resided until her passing.

Nancy was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church of Baytown where she was a Sunday school teacher and Benevolence Chairman. She was also the Founder of the Baytown Chapter of Big Brothers, a member of the Bluebird Circle of Houston, a Docent at Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, President of the Baytown Service League, long standing member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s International Committee, a member of the Harris County Grand Jury, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, a KA Southern Belle and a member of Goose Creek Country Club in Baytown. Nancy was very proud of her heritage as a 7th generation Texan and her survival of Polio in the 1950s.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Riley Whatley and Calvin Whatley and her sister, Ann Higginbotham of Dallas. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Daniel Moore Mundinger; sons, William George Mundinger II and his wife Winifred Heaney Mundinger of Dallas, Daniel Moore Mundinger, Jr. and his wife Catherine Chandler Mundinger of Houston, Calvin Adam Mundinger and his wife Ann Mundinger of Baytown and Erich Whatley Mundinger and his wife Betty Hamilton Mundinger also of Houston; grandchildren, William George Mundinger III, Robert Adam Mundinger, Elizabeth Mundinger Malone and her husband, Patrick of Dallas, Samantha Ann Mundinger, Daniel Moore Mundinger, III, Kathern Casey Mundinger, Riley Kean Mundinger, Hilary Bird Mundinger of Houston, George Lewis Mundinger, Jennifer Deanne Pike and Gage Rohr of Baytown; her Brother, Calvin Whatley and his wife, Julia of Eddy Texas; brother-in-law John Lanham Higginbotham; nieces, Cynthia Scofield and her husband John, Genie Bentley and her husband Jim and nephews, John Lanham Higginbotham, Jr. and his wife Adrien, John Mundinger and his wife Linda, and Wade Mundinger and his wife Finley; cousins Alice Ainsworth of Georgetown, Pat Riley Chandler of Ferris and Horatio Aldredge, M.D. of San Antonio and aunt Lavera Riley of Ennis.

Pallbearers are Will Mundinger II, Dan Mundinger Jr., Calvin Mundinger, Erich Mundinger, William Mundinger III, Danny Mundinger III, Robert Mundinger and George Mundinger and Milton Womack Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Heard Wright, George Chandler, John Scofield, Frank McKay, Charles Conder, Kyle Fullick, Conrad Magouirk, Jack Naumann and Horatio Aldridge, M.D.

Her family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. the evening of Wednesday, June 30th at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr, Baytown, TX 77521. Funeral services will be Thursday July 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main, Baytown, Texas 77520. Following services, at her request, her body will be cremated and her cremains will be interred at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Nancy lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
